AEW, which launched in 2019, has become WWE’s biggest competition since the company bought World Championship Wrestling from Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., a unit of then AOL Time Warner, now WarnerMedia – which broadcasts AEW’s dynamite and Carnage programs on DTT and TBSrespectively – in 2001.
According the newspaperMcMahon’s secret deal was made in January to prevent the wife, a former WWE paralegal, from discussing her relationship with McMahon or publicly making critical statements about her.
A WWE spokesperson confirmed the newspaper that the company is cooperating with the board’s investigation – which was launched in April – and that the relationship between the 76-year-old and the former employee was consensual.
McMahon was married to his wife, Linda – who served as Chairman and later CEO of WWE from 1980 to 2009 and later as Chief of Small Business Administration as a member of the former President donald trumpfrom 2017 to 2019 — since 1966.
The newspaper also reports that the board’s investigation uncovered other non-disclosure pacts stemming from allegations of misconduct involving other women who had previously worked for WWE, which involved McMahon and Jean LaurinaitisWWE General Manager of Talent Relations.
The news comes less than a month after McMahon’s daughter, Stephanieannounced it decision to take “leave” of the company as of May 20.
Chairman and Chief Revenue Officer of WWE Nick Khan took over “most of Stephanie McMahon’s duties in her absence”, Wrestlenomics‘ Brandon Thurston reported at the time of the announcement, citing multiple sources “in WWE”.
