The chairman, Dr. Arif Alvi, said that different segments of society, including educational institutions and chambers of commerce, have been approached and different tools are being used to raise awareness about breast cancer.
During an interactive session with social media professionals in Islamabad on Friday, he emphasized early diagnosis of the disease to save lives and avoid costly treatments such as mammography.
Describing social media as a powerful medium, the president said their practitioners should also come forward and play their part in raising breast cancer awareness.
Arif Alvi pointed out that talking about breast cancer is considered taboo in our society, but over the past four years, a sustained campaign led by First Lady Samina Alvi has yielded good results in spreading the message about breast cancer. breast in every nook and corner of the country. Responding to a question, the president said a national cancer registry has also been created to really understand the prevalence, survival rate and other parameters of the disease.
In her remarks, First Lady Samina Alvi said that given its wide reach, the role of Radio Pakistan is important in spreading important messages across Pakistan.
She said that we are focusing more on early diagnosis of the disease given the shortage of health facilities and mammography machines. She said we try to create awareness through multiple means, including radio and television.
The First Lady insisted on collective efforts to achieve the goal of early diagnosis of the disease in the majority of women. In this regard, the role of men is also very central.
Samina Alvi said that we also work for the protection of the rights of people with disabilities and to ensure that they get job opportunities.
