The Auckland Philharmonia promises a glorious Matariki celebration at Auckland City Hall this evening.

He teamed up with Rob Ruha for a unique show, Ka Pō, Ka Ao, featuring his waiata with full orchestration, chorus, and kapa haka accompaniment.

Artistic administrator Frances Moore says Ruha and bandleader David Kay have worked to integrate their sounds, and audiences are in for a special night.

“It’s glorious to think of listening to I Te Po with some woodwinds and beautiful rich brass harmonies that can hold a song as powerful as I Te Po. At the same time, really making the orchestra jump with the rhythms of the party where everyone wants to get up from their seat with Kalega or 35,” she says.
