After a conversation with Barrett News Mediawhere Ron Gleason discussed his impending retirement and that he will step down in just under five months, there is now a date.

Gleason, Brand Manager/News Director at Audacy “News Radio 780” WBBM Chicago, will retire from the company in January, so he will remain with the radio station until the end of this year.

“I will be retiring from full-time management at the end of January, stepping down as Chief Brand Officer/Director of News at WBBM,” Gleason said in a memo to staff (h/t Indoor Radio).

“People have told me there’s something called free time, and I’d like to know more about it.”

For more than 15 years, Gleason has held his position, but despite his love for the newsroom, he understands that it’s time to start a new phase.

“I love what I do, I love this newsroom and all of you – the people I’ve had the honor of working with over the years – reporters, production staff, sales people and the marketing, my fellow PDs, engineers, and yes, even market leaders,” Gleason added.

“Honestly, I’m a workaholic, which is a great asset when you’re on call 24 hours a day. But I’m older now, my kids are grown and Linda and I can’t wait to spend more than a few days out year in a desert home that has been sorely neglected. This decision comes after months of planning, with the much appreciated support and understanding of [VP/Programming] Greg [Solk], [SVP/Market Manager] Rachel [Williamson]and at all levels of the company.
