Red Bee Media Selects Synamedia Quortex for Disaster Recovery to Reduce Cloud Costs

Synamedia, the world’s largest independent video software provider, today announced that Red Bee Media, the global media services provider, deploys Synamedia Quortex just-in-time technology for disaster recovery for live streaming services.

By providing backup resources only when needed, Quortex’s cloud-native solution delivers unprecedented cost savings for disaster recovery, reduced power consumption and helps Red Bee Media meet its sustainable development goals.

Red Bee has been a Quortex customer since 2018, using its just-in-time architecture to support hundreds of OTT services for video, live events and radio each month. Red Bee uses Quortex to create streams on the fly, based on viewers’ locations, devices, and time zones. The technology adapts to unpredictable infrastructure and public demands by automatically scaling up and down resources, while leveraging Spot Instances that use spare cloud capacity at less than usual cost, while maintaining the quality of experience for viewers.

Quortex’s flexible pay-as-you-go, just-in-time, cloud model is well suited for unpredictable events such as service outages, offering significant cost savings over other cloud-based disaster recovery approaches that duplicate the the entire platform continuously, regardless of whether it is necessary. With multi-tenant SaaS technology that automatically launches complete workflows on demand, Quortex customers only pay for disaster recovery services when they’re needed.

Olivier Braun, Stream Services Product Manager at Red Bee, said, “It was easy to extend and configure Quortex as a key component of our disaster recovery for Stream Services. Setting up each channel only takes a few minutes, and Quortex’s just-in-time processing model meets our needs for a cost-effective, yet readily available disaster recovery environment.

Marc Baillavoine, Senior Director of Product Management at Synamedia, said, “We continue to demonstrate the power of just-in-time content processing for Red Bee. Using DevOps tools, we easily integrated with Red Bee’s managed OTT back-end, allowing dozens of live streams to be automatically deployed and configured in minutes on any cloud provider, wherever he is. Now we’re expanding our partnership with disaster recovery that only comes to life when needed, helping Red Bee build robust streaming environments while delivering substantial cost and energy savings.

Quortex was acquired by Synamedia in July 2022 and complements Synamedia Vivid Workflow-as-a-Service (WaaS).

Quortex technology will be showcased at IBC 2022 in Hall 5 at Quortex booth G53 and Synamedia booth A69. At the show, Quortex will also demonstrate how it partners with Red Bee to support the creation of FAST channels.
