MAB Recognizes WJJR/Detroit as Radio Station of the Year


News/Talk by Cumulus Media WJR-AM/Detroit was named Station of the Year by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters, when it announced its 2021 Broadcast Excellence Awards. This is the fifth time in six years that WJR has been recognized as the Michigan Association of Broadcasters’ Station of the Year. Additionally, WJR has been shortlisted for 17 “Excellence” awards and 7 “Merit” awards.

Nearly every aspect of WJR’s content offerings has been singled out for recognition, including on-air broadcast, commercial production, community involvement, news and specials, sports and play- by-play, promotional production, podcasting, and even “War of the Worlds” and “A Christmas Carol” specials featuring the Cumulus Detroit staff.

Additionally, Cumulus WDRQ-FM (New Country 93.1)/Detroit won “Best” for “Regular Broadcast Personality or Crew” for “Broadway In The Morning,” which airs weekdays from 5-10 a.m. Cumulus Detroit Chief Engineer Keith Bosworth received the MAB Carl E. Lee Engineering Award, completing Cumulus Detroit’s near-sweep of the 2021 Broadcast Excellence Awards.

Vice President/Marketing Director Steve Finateri said, “Winning so many awards reflects the depth of talent in this all-star team. Winning Station of the Year is especially rewarding, as WJR celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. We thank MAB for this. wonderful recognition.”

Director of Operations Mike Wheeler added, “It’s a daily honor to watch this group of talented professionals create great radio and serve our city and state like no other station can.” The recognition of their work is well deserved.
