An Internet-based educational radio station “Kalvichaaral” dedicated to school children was launched in Dindigul district on Friday.
According to a press release, Director of Education C. Karuppasamy said the show will air during lunch breaks – 12:40 p.m. to 1:10 p.m. – on working days at www.zeno.fm/radio/kalvichaaral/.
Students can listen to the show consisting of moral stories, songs, poetry, general knowledge, etc. the four educational districts of Dindigul, Palani, Batlagundu and Vedasandur.
Teachers have been instructed to ensure that programs are broadcast over loudspeakers on school premises during lunch breaks. Block education officers have been instructed to share the link with all primary and secondary school education authorities in their blocks.
Creations or performances by students and teachers will be broadcast, the statement said. Entries must be within three minutes, recorded clearly on their mobile phone without interference and must be sent in mp3 format.
Mr. Karuppasamy said the platform will help students from various schools to be exposed to more ideas and showcase the talents of the student and teacher communities. An education department official said the purpose of launching the radio station was to relieve students between their lessons.
