Sports fans can recognize a new but familiar voice on the air. Longtime KENS sports presenter Joe Reinagel has returned to radio to continue living his dream of talking sports as he joins the afternoon sports show The Blitz.

Reinagel, who has worked with KENS for 25 years, can be heard on The Blitz with host Jason Minnix every Monday through Friday starting at 4 p.m., talking about everything from Spurs, Cowboys and select sports. secondary school.

He says this is an exciting and additional opportunity for him as he started his radio career in 1993 in New Braunfels at KGNB station. That, his friendship and his past work with Minnix provide a natural chemistry between the two that makes the transition easier, he says.

“Being able to get back to it and talk about sport for three hours a day is a dream come true,” says Reinagel.

Minnix and Reinagel’s first show that aired on January 3 went very well, he says.

“It went a lot easier, I think, than we both thought,” said Reinagel.

Minnix is excited about the years of experience and insight Reinagel brings to the Blitz, but it’s again working with Reinagel that makes him happy.

“It’s just working with a good friend,” says Minnix. “Joe and I have been good friends for a very long time.”

Minnix used to host ESPN-owned San Antonio Sports Star with Rob Thompson and he says it was bittersweet when Thompson appeared on the R&R in the Morning show with co-host Rudy Jay.

But Minnix says bringing Reinagel on board means an exciting new era for The Blitz.

Reinagel, who can still be found during his usual KENS sports segment on the 10pm show, said when the opportunity was presented to him he knew he would take that extra gig.

He said KENS was “fantastic” about working with The Blitz when he told the station he wanted to take the opportunity. Now he hopes he can expand the sports coverage of the local high school.

“My first love, to be honest, is high school athletes and high school sports,” Reinagel said. “And so that’s something that I really hope to get into and be able to develop with this show.”

The Blitz can be heard online or ESPN AM 1250 or 94.5 FM. You might even see MySA’s Madalyn Mendoza on the show.
