Join us in celebrating Rob Brown’s dynamic career on Friday, May 27. Roncalli will host a reception in Brown’s honor as he retires from the Roncalli Media Network (RMN) and as the school’s Director of Sports Information and Broadcasting (SID). The event, which is open to everyone, will be held at Zink Distributing Co., 3150 Shelby St., Indianapolis, IN 46227, in an open house style event from 4:30-7:30 p.m.

Brown is the primary broadcast voice for school sports teams, calling play-by-play for all games in football, boys’ and girls’ basketball, and many other sports. It ended its 878th show on May 12. He started as Roncalli’s basketball play-by-play announcer, for the girls’ and boys’ teams, in November 2007 and added play-by-play football beginning in the 2011 season. Brown then expanded its broadcast in all sports seasons in 2016.

“I’ve been blessed to call three state championships and countless other memorable games over the past 15 seasons,” Brown said. “It was a great race.” As Roncalli’s Director of Sports Information, he was responsible for producing media guides and playing notes for the boys’ and girls’ soccer and basketball programs. He also handled press releases for the athletic department, as well as helping with sports content in publications and the school website.

Prior to his Roncalli career, Brown spent 10 seasons working in professional basketball. After seven seasons on the air for CBA’s Fort Wayne Fury games (the last five being play-by-play announcer), Brown spent three seasons working in Los Angeles’ media relations department. NBA’s Angeles Clippers. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1992 from the University of Miami, where he got his start in sports radio, then earned a Master of Science in Television-Radio-Film from Syracuse University. Next year.

Brown, a born and bred Southsider, owns a financial services business in Greenwood. He and his wife, Rachel, have a son, Sam (2017 Roncalli graduate) and a daughter, Lillian (2020 Roncalli graduate). In the future, Brown plans to enjoy his free time and travel with his wife. “Rob has given a whole generation of Roncalli athletes an audio story of their sporting career that will last a lifetime. It’s something they can share with their children and grandchildren. His voice and presence at games of the Royals will be sorely missed not only by our community but also by all the friends he has made at other schools in the area,” said Gary Armbruster, R’81, former Director of Corporate Relations at Roncalli for 14 years and current Director of Campus Grounds.

Sporting Director, David Lauck, R’94, said: “It’s hard for me to put into words all that Rob Brown and his wife, Rachel, have meant to the Roncalli community. It’s safe to say that when people think of Roncalli Athletics, they think of Rob Brown. He’s captured some of HRH’s greatest sporting moments over the years in a split second, and those moments have changed the lives of hundreds of our student-athletes and their families. And he captured them in a split second…. just remarkable! I know what will mean the most to Rob and Rachel will be the relationships they have developed over the years and thankfully those will never go away.
