Cumulus Media (NASDAQ: CMLS) announces that Detroit News/Talk 760 radio station WJR has been named Station of the Year by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters, during the announcement of its 2021 Broadcast Excellence Awards. This is the fifth time in six years that WJR has been recognized as the Michigan Association of Broadcasters’ Station of the Year.

Additionally, WJR has been shortlisted for 17 “Excellence” awards and 7 “Merit” awards. Nearly every aspect of WJR’s content offerings has been singled out for recognition, including on-air broadcast, commercial production, community involvement, news and specials, sports and play- by-play, promotional production, podcasting, and even the station’s specials of “War of the Worlds” and “A Christmas Carol” featuring Cumulus Detroit staff.

Additionally, Cumulus Detroit’s New Country 93.1/WDRQ-FM won “Best” for “Regularly Scheduled Broadcast Personality or Team” for Broadway In The Morning, which airs weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Keith Bosworth, Cumulus Detroit’s chief engineer, received the MAB’s Carl E. Lee Engineering Award, completing Cumulus Detroit’s near-sweep of the 2021 Broadcast Excellence Awards.

The MAB Broadcast Excellence Awards program is Michigan’s premier broadcasting competition and awards. Stations across the state compete with a standard of excellence in various categories designed to feature the best materials Michigan broadcasters have to offer.

Steve Finateri, Vice President/Marketing Director, Cumulus Detroit, said, “Winning so many awards reflects the depth of talent in this all-star team. Winning Station of the Year is especially rewarding, as WJR celebrates its 100th anniversary this year! We thank the MAB for this great recognition.

Mike Wheeler, Director of Operations, Cumulus Detroit, said, “It’s a daily honor to watch this group of talented professionals create great radio and serve our city and state like no other station can. The recognition of their work is well deserved.
